General Assembly Sixth Committee (Legal)
The Legal Committee is the last of the six main committees in the United Nations General Assembly. The purpose of the legal committee is to consider all legal questions in the General Assembly. The Legal committee primarily focuses on matters of international law. Furthermore, this committee has universal membership, meaning all member states of the United Nations are automatically members of the committee. Various international treaties including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court have been negotiated through this committee.
Topic A: Criminal Accountability of UN Officers
Topic B: Regulating Automated Warfare
Letter from the Chair
Dear Esteemed Delegates:
Welcome to JHUMUNC XXIII! My name is Anum Haque and I will be your chair for the Legal committee. I am so excited to work with all of you to navigate the legal questions of the General Assembly. I am currently a junior at Johns Hopkins University majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Management. Outside of JHUMUNC, I am a member of Theta Tau, a pre-professional engineering fraternity, and I also work as a student activities commissioner on the funding board of the Student Government Association. This is my third year staffing JHUMUNC and my sixth year participating in Model United Nations. Two years ago, I was a dais member for Legal, and last year, I was a dais member for the European Cooperation in Science and Technology. I’ve always been very passionate about MUN, and I look forward to working with all of you very soon. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Good Luck!
