Quadrumvirate: Anatolian Wars, 1919
Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic
It is the year 1919, and the Great War has left the Russian Empire in political and economic shambles, leading to the disintegration of the monarchy and the rise of the socialist regime. After several months of uprisings, climaxing first in the February Revolution and finally in Red October, Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks have usurped dominion over the former Russian Empire from the Provisional Government and begun its reorganization into the world’s first socialist republic. Now, the nation is in the midst of a Civil War, with the Lenin-led Bolshevik Red Army attempting to drive back the forces of the nationalist White Army. To combat the White Army and their supporters, including the United Kingdom, the Red Army must strategize successfully to maintain control of Russia as a communist state. Outside of Russia’s borders, however, the transnational conflict of the Anatolian Wars is gradually escalating outside the realms of Greece and Turkey. It is up to this committee to decide the newly-minted Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic’s role in the Greco-Turkish War in order to reestablish ourselves as a formidable state and further spread the principles of the Great October Socialist Revolution.

Letter from the Chair
Hello and welcome to the Johns Hopkins University Model United Nations Conference (JHUMUNC) of 2019! My name is Amy Guo, and I am extremely excited to be serving as your chair for the Quadrumvirate: Anatolian Wars – Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (RSFSR) committee.
I am currently a sophomore at Hopkins with a double major in Public Health Studies and Applied Math and Statistics, and this will be my second year of JHUMUNC as a staff member but sixth year of JHUMUNC overall. Beginning my freshman year of high school, I started my Model UN experience, quite hesitant at first but eventually growing to love the challenging yet lively debate only found through MUN. Throughout the next four years, I attended numerous high school and collegiate conferences, including JHUMUNC! Last year, I served as crisis staff for the Quad: Pacific Theater of the Cold War – USSR committee. I hope to utilize my skills as both a delegate and a staff member to provide you all with the most informative and engaging experience possible at JHUMUNC this year.
Beginning in the year 1919, the RSFSR is in the middle of a civil war between the Red and White Armies. Prior to entering the Anatolian Wars fought amongst the Kingdom of Greece and the Turkish National Movement, delegates must first secure stability in their own state in order to eventually focus on the global advancement of communism. I can’t wait to see how you all work towards addressing the general topic of the Anatolian Wars while responding to fast-paced crises and promoting inter-committee debate.
If you have any questions or concerns about the committee, position paper writing, or JHUMUNC in general, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to seeing you all in February!
