Quadrumvirate: Anatolian Wars, 1919
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
Coming out of the Great War, the United Kingdom, which was once the world’s biggest investors, is now its biggest debtor. On the brink of bankruptcy, the United Kingdom has to balance its expansionist aims with an internal financial crisis. In 1919, the UK is still aiding both the White Army against the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic in the Russian Civil War and the Kingdom of Greece against the Turkish National Movement in an attempt to enforce land claims per the Armistice of Mudros against a collapsing Ottoman Empire. Delegates will be working with the three other committees to navigate the treacherous and hostile environment of the Anatolian Wars. The main objectives for this committee include negotiating peace deals that serve to favor the United Kingdom and ending the Ottoman Empire’s rule over the region.
Committee Topics and Background Guide
Topic A: Attaining Financial Stability post-WWI and Assessing Potential Alliances with Foreign Nations
Topic B: Dismantling the Ottoman Empire and Sequestering its TerritoryAvailable November 30, 2018
Letter from the Chair
Welcome to JHUMUNC 2019! This conference is going to be filled to the brim with excitement, tension, and suspense. We have a great setting this year: the Anatolian Wars of 1919. I can’t wait to see all the great debate, excitement, and passion you guys will bring to committee.
A little background information about me first. My name is Faris Omair; I’m from Saudi Arabia, but I spent the majority of my life in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My first experiences in MUN were in my high school’s conference. I moved up the ranks from administrative staff, to delegate, and eventually chair! This is my second time chairing a Specialized committee, and I have plenty of other experience with MUN leadership and chairing. In JHUMUNC 2017, I served as crisis staff for JCC and in JHUMUNC 2018 I was the chair for Quad USSR in the Pacific Theatre of the Cold War.
At Hopkins, I’m a junior majoring in Economics with three minors in Financial Economics, Accounting & Financial Management, and Entrepreneurship & Management. I spend my free time in the gym, playing video games, and hanging out with the brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi, Hopkins' co-ed business fraternity. Post-college, I plan to work on Wall Street in Investment Management before eventually owning my own business!
If you have any hesitation about being in a Quadrumvirate/Specialized committee, let me reassure you: Specialized committees are the most fun you could have at JHUMUNC, especially in Quad. There’s never a dull moment with crises and the small size of the committees allows for a lot of teamwork and collaborations with fellow delegates.
For any questions or concerns about JHUMUNC, Hopkins, or anything really, feel free to reach out to me.
Very excited to meet everyone and I can’t wait to make JHUMUNC 2019 the best conference yet!
