Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretaries-General
Designed for the most experienced delegates attending the conference, the Ad Hoc Committee amplifies the impromptu crisis driven elements of a typical Specialized committee at JHUMUNC by changing one important aspect of the committee: the topic of the committee and delegate positions will not be released until shortly before the conference. As such, delegates will have to be fast and creative with problem solving, scheming, and strategizing in order to make up for the greatly reduced preparation time. Since this a committee in which pre-conference preparation and research is impossible, qualified and experienced delegates who are interested are encouraged to submit an application for the Ad Hoc committee. Ideal candidates include head delegates (or other club/team officers) and juniors/seniors with extensive crisis committee experience. Ultimately, the topics of the committee, its timeframe, and who it is composed of have all been designed with the goal of making the Ad Hoc committee a fast paced and competitive environment in which an equalized level of preparation will allow for delegates’ Model UN skills to be put to the test.
Application Process and Deadline
The Ad Hoc Committee operates as an application-only committee and ergo is recommended for more advanced delegates. Each delegate will be assigned a role to which they will not be privy until the first committee session—though topically-relevant “Case Studies” will be released to all delegates within three to five days of the conference. Delegates interested in participating as a member of the Ad Hoc Committee should complete the application by the end of the payment deadline for Regular Registration, which concludes at 11:59 p.m. on December 14th. Delegates will be selected on a soft rolling basis, and those selected for participation in the Ad Hoc Committee must, should they accept, give up their interim assignment in a different committee so that that space may become available to a new delegate. Advisors must make payment within the Regular Registration payment window to secure a delegate’s seat in Ad Hoc.
In addition to the one below, links to the application will be sent to all advisors with delegates who express interest in the committee. Please do not apply before first registering and paying all concomitant registration fees.Available February 6, 2019 at 12PM EST
Letter from the Chair
Welcome to JHUMUNC. My name is Kacie Wuthrich, and I am a rising senior at Hopkins. I will be your Chair for the Ad Hoc Committee. My sophomore year was my first year chairing this committee, and I can personally attest that Ad Hoc is a great experience.
I am from just outside Detroit, Michigan, and am excited to be back at Hopkins after spending my junior year abroad. Here at Hopkins I am an International Studies and East Asian Studies double major. On campus I’m involved with the club softball team and with tutoring Baltimore public school students.
While I can’t say anything about our actual topic, our committee will be crisis-oriented and fast paced. Delegates should be prepared to work together and to think critically about international issues. I cannot wait to meet and work with you all, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the conference, our committee, or Hopkins.
Once again, welcome to JHUMUNC!
