The Secretariat & Directorate of JHUMUNC 2018
Anisha Anand is one of the Secretaries-General of JHUMUNC 2018 and is extremely excited to welcome everyone back to Baltimore for the 21st session of JHUMUNC! Anisha is a senior majoring in Economics and International Studies from Dallas, Texas and has been involved with Model UN for 8 years now. It is her job to make sure that all aspects of the conference are run well and come together for a spectacular weekend at the Hilton. Last year, she had the privilege of serving as Undersecretary-General of General Assemblies and the year before she served as Chair of SPECPOL for JHUMUNC 2016. Apart from JHUMUNC, Anisha also travels with the Hopkins Model UN team, works at the Johns Hopkins Office of Alumni Relations, and is a sister of the Alpha Phi sorority. Ajay Mehta is one of the Secretaries-General of JHUMUNC 2018 and is looking forward to making the 21st session of JHUMUNC the most successful conference to date! Ajay is senior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Northern Virginia. He is now tasked with leading an excellent Secretariat and Directorate to ensure that the conference is enjoyable for the delegates, advisors, and staff. This is Ajay’s third year on the Secretariat and Directorate, having served as the Undersecretary-General of Specialized Committees for JHUMUNC 2017 and Director of Specialized Committees for JHUMUNC 2016. He has chaired the Summit on Cybercrime and Cyberwarfare and JHUMUNC’s first application-based Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General. Outside of JHUMUNC, Ajay is a undergraduate researcher in the Kuruvilla Lab and is a volunteer in Thread, a Baltimore mentoring program. Alexei Acacio is from Manila, Philippines. He is majoring in Psychology and minoring in both Spanish and Entrepreneurship. As Director-General, his job is to act as a liaison between JHUMUNC and the Hilton to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable stay. In his free time, you’ll find Alexei exploring some of Baltimore’s many restaurants, running experiments in the cognitive science lab he works in, or traveling to new places. Having done Model UN for seven years —including three as a member of the Operations & Technology team— he is excited for JHUMUNC XXI. While Alexei will be spending the bulk of his time behind-the-scenes, he is very much looking forward to meeting all of you this February. Chief of Staff
Jen Aufill will be serving as your Chief of Staff for JHUMUNC 2018. Her job is to make sure that JHUMUNC staff enjoys their time preparing an amazing conference for everyone. This is her fourth year involved with JHUMUNC, having served as the USG of ECOSOC, Director of ECOSOC, Chair of the UN Commission on the Status of Women and Chair of the African Union. She is a senior at Johns Hopkins University double-majoring in Public Health Studies and Writing Seminars with a minor in Spanish. Outside of this amazing group, she is a part of Kappa Alpha Theta and is employed part time at the Bloomberg School of Public Health as a Health Policy and Management research assistant. Guohao Sun is a rising senior studying Mechanical Engineering and Visual Arts at Hopkins. As an international student from China, he has been involved in Model UN since middle school and attended multiple international conferences. Outside of school, he is a World Taekwondo Federation certified Black Belt, a brother of Theta Tau, the Professional Engineering Fraternity, and a Dog Deputy at the Maryland SPCA! Undersecretary-General of General Assemblies
Suborna Panja is a senior Economics major and Entrepreneurship & Management and Marketing & Communications double minor. Originally from Somerset, NJ, she participated in Model UN through all four years of high school. Since coming to Hopkins, Suborna has served as a dais member on the Committee on Sustainability, the Summit on Space Advancement and Technology 2100, and chair of ECOFIN. During JHUMUNC 2017 she served as the Director of GA committees and is incredibly excited to now serve as the USG of GA committees. Roderick Bowlby is serving as the USG of ECOSOC at JHUMUNC 2018. A junior at Johns Hopkins, Roderick is studying Political Science and East Asian Studies. He is originally from London, UK, but has lived in the United States for the past twelve years. Roderick has had a long career in Model UN, participating throughout high school, chairing at JHUMUNC 2016, and most recently, serving as the Director of ECOSOC at JHUMUNC 2018. Robin Dickey is a Junior from Denver, Colorado, studying International Studies with minors in Islamic Studies and Visual Arts. This is her third year in JHUMUNC, having worked as a crisis staffer in both Quadrumvirate and Joint Crisis Committees. In addition, she began her Model United Nations career in high school, making this her seventh year involved in MUN. She is excited to carry on the Specialized tradition of fast-paced, interactive committees that push delegates to produce the most creative and dynamic debates possible! Gayatri Pillai welcomes you to JHUMUNC 2018! This year, she is excited to serve as your Undersecretary General of Specialized Committees. She is currently a premed student in her Sophomore year at Hopkins. She plans on majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Management. Model UN has been a part of her life since the 9th grade and she has continued that passion here at Hopkins. Last year she served as Chair of the Quadrumvirate Spanish Navy Committee. She is originally from Kerala, India but has lived in Collegeville, Pa most of her life. Though she loves math and science, she is also passionate about international policy and debate. Nevena Marinkovic is a rising senior Engineering Mechanics major from Long Island, New York. This is her fourth year in JHUMUNC, but her first as School Relations. She also works on campus for the Office of LGBTQ Life and as a teaching assistant in the Mechanical Engineering Department. She looks forward to working with you this year! Tangkwa Sakulsaengprapha is a rising senior from Bangkok, Thailand who will be serving as one of the Under-Secretaries General of School Relations this year. She is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and minoring in Computational Medicine as well as Psychology. Tangkwa has been involved in Model UN since middle school and has previously served with JHUMUNC as dais of the Legal Committee and the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and as the Director of School Relations. Undersecretary-General of Operations
Audrey Adams is a senior from New Jersey and is studying International Studies and German. She is graduating in Fall 2017 and is planning to go to law school. This is her sixth year at JHUMUNC, and her fourth year on JHUMUNC staff. She was the Director of Operations and Technology for JHUMUNC 2017. As USG of Operations, most of her work is behind the scenes, as she handles all of the printing and setting up projectors. Undersecretary-General of Programming
Stefanie Seo and is a junior studying Public Health and Spanish. She is originally from Bryn Mawr, a little suburb right outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed serving as the Director of Press Corps for the Ad-Hoc committee last year and and is so excited to be returning to JHUMUNC as the USG of Programming. Stefanie has been a delegate at many high school conferences and sitting on the other side of the dais table has been an incredible experience for her. Undersecretary-General of Programming
Dong Ho Shin is a junior studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Hopkins. He will serve as one of the Undersecretaries General of Programming for JHUMUNC 2018. Dong Ho is originally from Korea but he has lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for most of his life. At Hopkins, he is involved in Hopkins Emergency Response Unit as a crew member for our campus EMS service, Alumni Student Ambassadors as a representative of the alumni office, and a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity organization. In the past two JHUMUNC conferences, Dong Ho has served as the Dais staff for Florence in the Quadrumvirate Specialized committee and Deputy Sergeant at Arms. Along with his programming staff members, he will be working hard on ensuring events outside of the JHUMUNC committee sessions are as successful and enjoyable as the past years. Director of General Assemblies
Kamran Siddiq is a junior originally from Dallas, TX, but he has lived in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia for the past 8 years. He is currently majoring in Biomedical Engineering and his been involved in Model UN since he started high school. Outside of class, he loves practicing the drums, writing blogs for Hopkins Interactive, and finding new places in Baltimore to eat good food. For the past two years he has been involved with JHUMUNC, having served as a Dais member on Legal, Chair of the F1 Grand Prix, and now the Director of General Assemblies for JHUMUNC 2018. He’s incredibly excited to work alongside the rest of Secretariat and Directorate to plan and execute what will undoubtedly be the best JHUMUNC yet! Director of ECOSOC Committees
Shubhayu Bhattacharyay is a sophomore from Los Angeles, California dual majoring in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Math & Statistics and minoring in Spanish for the Professions. He is originally from Kolkata, India and has lived in Thailand and Vietnam before moving to the United States. His global perspective inspired him to join Model United Nations in his freshman year of high school and he has been participating ever since. For Johns Hopkins, Shubhayu not only serves on the JHUMUNC staff but also competes for the HopMUN travel team. He is also a violinist in the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, a brother of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and a research assistant at the Trayanova Lab for Computational Cardiology. Director of Specialized Committees
Artur Barkan is the Director of Specialized Committees and is very excited to be part of JHUMUNC 2018 team. Artur is currently studying International Studies at Johns Hopkins and is originally from Voorhees, NJ. He began his Model UN career his sophomore year of high school. This will be Artur’s fourth time at JHUMUNC previously participating in JHUMUNC twice as a high school delegate and serving as the Dais for Ad-Hoc for JHUMUNC 2017. As the Director, Artur will be working with the rest the Specialized staff to tailor fast and creative committees that will challenge delegates putting them in situations usually unseen in conventional Model UN committees. Director of the Quadrumvirate and Joint Crisis Committees
Zanir Habib will be serving as the Director of the Quadrumvirate and Joint Crisis Committees. He a rising Junior from Dallas, Texas studying Electrical Engineering. This is his 7th year participating in Model United Nations. For JHUMUNC, he was previously the Chair of the 1982 Margaret Thatcher Cabinet and the Chair of the Duchy of Milan committee. As Director of Quadrumvirate and Joint Crisis Committees , he works with the Chairs and the Dais to ensure committees are engaging, enjoyable and informative for the delegates. Director of Crisis
Caroline Lupetini is a junior from Chicago, Illinois studying International Studies with minors in Economics and Italian. She is also the Vice President of Member Development of her sorority Pi Beta Phi and the President of the other Model UN team at Hopkins, HopMUN! Director of School Relations
Carolina I. Andrada is a junior majoring in International Studies and minoring in Latin American Studies. She is a proud Argentine from Buenos Aires, but spent most of her formative years in Panama City, Florida. While this is only her second year involved in any sort of Model UN program, JHUMUNC has quickly risen to be one of Carolina’s favorite aspects of studying at Johns Hopkins. During JHUMUNC XX, Carolina was a Dais in the African Union committee. While her experience working as a Dais helped Carolina to understand Model UN as a competition, she looks forward to strengthening the behind-the-scenes aspects of JHUMUNC as a Director of School Relations. Lilly Su is a senior studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She was born in America but grew up in Taiwan and still lives there. On campus, she is involved in Remington Outreach, Yo! Tutoring, and does research at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. This will be her fourth year doing JHUMUNC and last year she was the Chair of Legal Committee. Director of Business and Finance
Wendy Tsai is a sophomore studying Chemistry and Public Health. As the Director of Business and Finance, Wendy will be working with JHUMUNC’s budget, social media accounts, and fundraisers. She is originally from Vancouver, Canada and has been doing MUN since her freshman year of high school. In her free time, she likes to travel, play the ukulele, and explore the city’s good food. This is Wendy’s second year of working with JHUMUNC, and she is beyond ecstatic to be a part of the conference again. Director of Operations
Jacob LaRochelle is a sophomore at Johns Hopkins, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship & Management. He is originally from Naples, Florida and is excited to serve as your Director of Operations for JHUMUNC 2018. At Hopkins, Jake is also involved in Mock Trial and the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium. This will be his second year in JHUMUNC. Previously, Jake was an operations and technology staffer. His job for this JHUMUNC is to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes and ensure that the committees have access to the materials they need to work well. Director of Technology
Howard S. Senior is a rising sophomore who hails originally from the tropical paradise of Coral Gables, a borough of Miami, Florida. An International Studies, Applied Math, and Political Science triple major, he delights in discussions about geopolitics and modern history; fascination with the international milieu is what attracted him to the realm of Model United Nations in the first place. Howard first joined his high school’s MUN team in 2015, and attended conferences throughout his senior year. He would later go on to serve as a staff member of the Operations and Technology team during JHUMUNC XX, an opportunity that was as indelible as it was splendid. Armed with this wonderful experience, Howard intends, chiefly, to ensure that JHUMUNC XXI is a resounding success from the inside out. Director of Press Corps
Claire Chen is the Director of Press Corps for JHUMUNC 2018. She is a rising sophomore studying International Studies and is originally from Tampa, Florida. She did Model UN all four years of high school, and was also a Dais member of the DISEC committee last year, and she’s greatly enjoyed being on both sides of the dais.
