International Monetary Fund (IMF)
The International Monetary Fund is an international organization founded in 1945 and consists of 189 countries working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty worldwide. While the fundamental objective of the IMF is to ensure the stability of the global monetary system, its mandate was revised in 2012 to incorporate a wider range of macroeconomic and financial sector issues that impact global stability. The IMF provides loans to nations experiencing balance of payments problems to help stabilize their respective currencies, rebuild their international reserves, continue paying for imports, and restore conditions for economic growth. Additionally, the IMF works with governments worldwide to modernize and strengthen economic policies and institutions at both the national and international levels.

Letter from the Chair
Dear Esteemed Delegates:
Welcome to JHUMUNC XIII! My name is Lexi Rothschild-Edwards, and I am excited to be your chair for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) committee.
I am a sophomore at Johns Hopkins double majoring in Economics and International Studies with a minor in Financial Economics, and I am from Long Island, New York. In addition to JHUMUNC, I serve as Campaigns Chair for Hopkins College Democrats, and I compete on the club Equestrian Team. Last year, I founded a chapter of Smart Woman Securities at Hopkins, a national organization that provides investment education, financial literacy, and career development opportunities to undergraduate women, and I currently serve on the Executive Board.
This is my second year at JHUMUNC and my sixth year overall of doing MUN, as I was first exposed to MUN as a freshman in high school. I also served as Media Associate for Best Delegate in 2017-2018, and I published several articles about my experiences in MUN on this platform. At JHUMUNC XXII, I was a dais member for SPECPOL.
I am looking forward to working with you all to foster global monetary cooperation and sustainable economic growth worldwide through this committee, and I hope that JHUMUNC XIII will be a meaningful academic experience. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me. My dais members and I cannot wait to meet you at JHUMUNC XXIII!
Chair, International Monetary Fund (IMF)
